The Mojave Collection was designed as thoughtfully as possible this season.
I struggled for some time and wondered whether I should stay with photography/tech accessories or move on to other products. It also proved to be more and more challenging as I grew – especially with artisans – to design complicated tech related products, but what stayed constant in my mind was always travel and how people, mainly females, move through time, through the highs and lows of their lives, and the objects that carry them along for the ride.
I started with a the idea of a functional, modern backpack.
The Mojave Travel Backpack was my first design in the collection and it was inspired by small carry-on luggage, yet with a clean organic feel. I always enjoyed the idea of how carry-on luggage opened and how one can pack, compartmentalize and keep belongings safe inside for travel – yet why didn’t most backpacks open this way? The design of this backpack was created to be clean, simple and organized, while the structure allows everything to stay in one place.
Although I try to stay away from trends and try my best to focus more on timeless accessories, it was crystal clear that backpacks are what females are truly coveting right now. Perhaps due to the fact that our lives are so busy and being hands free is now the standard. For the Mojave Mini I began by studying the backpacks I saw on the streets. It seemed that the ones that always inspired me were always vintage. They were simple in color, like chestnut browns and soft blacks, in a high-quality leather. They had minimal hardware, no logos and of course, a classic, timeless design. Typically an old coach or an old Italian brand that no one ever heard of – design and quality should always speak for itself. I realized if I designed one, it would embody these qualities – future vintage is the goal. Hence The Mojave Mini Backpack + Messenger Bag was created.
Still thinking about the best way to stay modern, innovative and make sure people are making an investment that moves with the times, we were able to figure out how a mini backpack can transform into a beautiful messenger bag effortlessly. A 2 in 1 bag is modern and the objects we invest in must be able to do double duty. The Mini Mojave does just that.
Lastly, what I added to the collection was a simple personal need – The Mojave Travel Clutch, an accessory for organizing small items – from ear phones to makeup or even your phone. I lived in my travel tote all summer. I honestly forgot I owned a purse. Yet as much as I loved a simple, sturdy tote staying organized was a bit of a nightmare. This clutch for me did just that. It fit all my essential possessions while staying chic and timeless. Besides the classic colour, the best thing about the Mojave Travel Clutch is that you can move it from one bag to the next without having to organize all your everyday essentials. The Mojave Travel Clutch is your secret organizer. You’re simple and unsuspecting, new best friend.
We hope you love the new evolution of Jolie Laide as much as we do and of course, we hope they travel the world with you.
