Founded in 2014 and based in Toronto, Canada, Jolie Laide was born out of Jacqueline Flaggiello’s  passion for photography and inspired by her travels throughout South America and Europe. Her vision is to create unique, high quality and well-crafted leather camera straps and leather camera bags that incorporate textiles from all over the world.

Jolie Laide combines the exotic with the classic, bridging the craftsmanship and traditions of both worlds to design accessories that are both innovative and refined. They are created for professional – and amateur – photographers who desire accessories that are not only beautiful and have character –but are also comfortable, and built to last.

Jacqueline Flaggiello is a multi disciplinary designer, photographer and entrepreneur who currently holds a Bachelors of Arts in Philosophy from McMaster University. Her curiosity in design, tech and sustainability lead her to complete a Post-Graduate degree in International Business from ESMOD in Paris, France. Through years of travel and various photography projects, Jacqueline has turned her love of photography into a lifestyle with the start of Jolie Laide. Jolie Laide is a travel and lifestyle brand that currently produces leather camera straps and camera bags with artisans in Leon, Mexico. Her ultimate aim is to continually advocate for sustainable systems in production and design while also encouraging the craft of photography as not only as a medium for artistry but also as a tool for education and social change.

The term Jolie Laide literally translates to unique or unconventional beauty but connotes a quality of lyricism, even transcendence. In that sense, it represents a triumph of personality over physiognomy, the exaltation of substance over surface.

Leave it to the French to introduce a concept of feminine beauty so pure in its abstraction as to defy all logic. Jolie Laide celebrates the poetics of irregularity: a contradiction between two worlds that collide together to transform into products that are unique and sophisticated.

Ethical Production

In an industry dominated by mass production in low wage countries, Jolie Laide is truly distinctive. We care about the cycle of design, production and distribution. Each step of the process – from the effect of the leathers we select on the environment, to the health, safety and well being of our workers, to the consumers who purchase our products- must be aligned with out ethics and our mission.

Our handcrafted leather accessories are created by a small family-run artisan leather company in León, Guanajuato, México. Through weekly communication of emails, photos and videos it is clear that these artisans are passionate about their craft. We employ and empower these craftspeople paying them a fair, living wage.

Authenticity and transparency to our customers are important to us and important to our customers

The Jolie Laide brand is distinguished by its integrity. We are committed to creating unique, high quality products and will not cut corners to compromise quality.
